Todd Kolb is a business-savvy entrepreneur with over 30 years of experience. Prior to moving into the retirement space, he worked at Price Waterhouse Coopers (PWC) and at several startups… Combined with several years of business ownership, Todd has a unique perspective he can offer his clients. Today he specializes in retirement income strategies to help people maximize their chances for a successful retirement, primarily through mitigating risk exposure.
Todd’s approach is simple: for people within 10 years of retirement, it’s important to implement a “rescue plan”… why?
The rescue plan principle is based on the idea that, no matter how old you are, you need to remove risk from a percentage of your assets to maximize your chances of retiring on your own terms… but if you are within 10 years of retirement, it is imperative. Based on a study by JP Morgan Chase, on average, it takes 7-10 years for a portfolio to recover from a significant market downturn.
When you are within 10 years of retirement, you cannot afford to take a significant hit; there are no “do overs” in retirement. It becomes necessary to properly manage your risk exposure in the market, and that’s what the rescue plan does. It leverages the concept of volatility buffers, and rescues some of those 401k, brokerage account, and/or IRA assets from risk. The more you rescue, the more income certainty you will have in retirement.
Todd grew up in the Boston area and, as such, is an avid Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics, and Bruins fan. Mostly, though, he is an avid fan of his family that includes his wife, LeAnne, and their children, Caroline, Grace and Jack (not trying to copy the Kennedy family!) In his free time Todd likes to play golf, go to live concerts and sporting events, watch his favorite Boston pro sports teams, and spend time on the water in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
